Alyssa Chia (賈靜雯) is a Taiwanese actress and television host, born on October 7, 1974, in Taipei, Taiwan. She has been active in the television and film industry since the 1990s.

Early life

Alyssa was born and raised in Taipei to a family with ancestral roots in Tianjin, China. During her high school years, she was discovered while appearing in commercials, which marked her entry into the entertainment industry. She briefly studied acting at the Beijing Film Academy, but returned to Taiwan to stay close to her family and pursue professional opportunities in the local television and film sector.

Career

Alyssa Chia first gained attention in 1997 when she appeared in several television dramas, including Four Princesses and The Curious Cases of Judge Shi: Flute Jade and Flute God. Her performance in Four Princesses, a modern family drama, won her the Best New Actress in Television award at the Golden Bell Awards in Taiwan. This marked her breakthrough in the television industry.

In 1998, she starred in urban and romantic dramas such as Angels Don’t Sleep and Tomorrow With You, and made her big-screen debut in True Love alongside Hu Bing. That same year, she was nominated for Best Children’s Program Host at the Golden Bell Awards for her role as host of the children’s program Super Little Players.

In 1999, she began co-hosting the popular variety show Victory Flag with Hu Gua, Show Lo, and Ou Di. On screen, she starred in The Tragic Love of Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai, which topped ratings on MinTV, and took on the role of Sun Xiaohong in Legend of Dagger Li, her first drama in mainland China. That same year, she also played Ye Xiangyu in Returning Blade and Shi Wanting in Legend of Zhonghua Heroes.

In 2000, she played dual roles—Lin Yuhong and Bai Jianying—in the historical fantasy drama Flying Dragon in the Sky, which became the highest-rated Taiwanese series of the year. In 2001, she co-hosted Variety Battleship on FTV with Jacky Wu and expanded to mainland productions with The Prince of Han Dynasty, portraying Nian Nujiao.

In 2002, Chia took on one of her most iconic roles as Zhao Min in The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber, adapted from Jin Yong’s novel. The drama achieved strong ratings across China, elevating her profile further. That same year, she also starred in Super School, playing Xu Kaidi.

In 2003, she portrayed Wu Zetian in Lady Wu: The First Empress and continued with fantasy-historical series such as Divine Doctor and Hero Couple and Buyi Tianzi. In 2004, she starred in Turn Left, Turn Right, adapted from Jimmy Liao’s graphic novel, and The 100th Bride, as well as appearing in The Prince of Qin, Li Shimin. After this period, she slowed her activities due to marriage and childbirth.

Between 2005 and 2010, she remained active through hosting and selected drama appearances, including Sing When You Are Sad (2006), Invincible Love (2008), and You Are So Affectionate (2009).

Her career regained momentum in 2011 with Secret History of Princess Taiping, where she played both Princess Taiping and Princess Anding. In 2012, she released her first EP Make a Wish and starred in Under the Same Roof. From 2013 to 2015, she appeared in dramas including Wait for Happiness (2014), I Love You, I Love You, I Love You, Locked Palace, and Angel Wings.

From 2016 to 2018, she expanded into reality shows such as Super Mom and participated in The Amazing Race China (2017) with her husband Xiu Jie Kai. In 2018, she returned to Taiwanese television after 15 years with The World Between Us, playing Song Qiao-an, a newsroom director.

In 2019, her performance in The World Between Us won her Best Leading Actress in a Drama Program at the 54th Golden Bell Awards. She also appeared in Nowhere Man on Netflix. In 2020, she acted in the historical drama The Sleuth of the Ming Dynasty and filmed Mom, Don’t Do That!.

In 2021, she returned to cinema with The Falls, portraying a single mother under immense psychological strain. The role earned her Best Leading Actress at the Golden Horse Awards. In 2022, she starred in and executive-produced Mom, Don’t Do That! on Netflix and featured in Shards of Her.

In 2023, she appeared in Netflix’s At the Moment, joined the reality competition Ride the Wind 2023 on Mango TV, and participated in several cultural and musical events. In 2024, she appeared in the variety show 20 Years Old Season 4.

In 2025, Chia continues to work actively with projects including the drama Fight for Beauty, the sequel The World Between Us 2, the film Candlestick, and the Netflix release The Resurrected. These works underline her steady presence across television, film, and streaming platforms over nearly three decades.
