Guan Xiaotong is a Chinese actress and singer, born on September 17, 1997, in Beijing, China. She works in acting and music and is known for her roles in the films The Left Ear and Shadow, as well as the television series To Be a Better Man.

Early life

Guan Xiaotong was born into an artistic family. Her father, Guan Shaozeng, is an actor, and her grandfather, Guan Xuezeng, was a master of Beijing Qinshu, a traditional form of Chinese folk singing.

From a young age, influenced by her family, she was encouraged to pursue the arts and developed a particular love for dance and piano. She began acting at the age of four and a half, making her first appearance alongside her father in a television production in 2001.

Career

In 2003, Guan Xiaotong starred in the film Nuan, which won the Grand Prix at the Tokyo International Film Festival. During this period, she began to gain recognition as a child actress. In her childhood, she appeared in The Promise (2005), directed by Chen Kaige, and participated in several other television dramas.

In 2014, she starred in the television drama May December Love, winning Best Supporting Actress at the Hengdian Film and TV Festival. In 2015, she appeared in the youth film The Left Ear and received the Rising Star Actress award at the Macau International Film Festival. That same year, she released her solo album titled Eighteen.

In 2016, Guan Xiaotong played the role of Peng Jiahe in the television series To Be a Better Man. The series achieved high viewership ratings, earning her the Best Supporting Actress award at the Shanghai Television Festival. That year, she also starred in the fantasy historical drama Novoland: Castle in the Sky and received the Best Leading Actress award at the Macau International Television Festival.

From 2017 to 2018, she participated in several major projects, including Xuan-Yuan Sword: Han Cloud, Love of Aurora, Untouchable Lovers, and Sweet Combat. Notably, in 2018, she played a princess in Director Zhang Yimou’s film Shadow, which was selected for screening at the Venice and Toronto International Film Festivals. In the same year, she starred in the international film project The Curse of Turandot alongside American actor Dylan Sprouse.

In 2020, Guan Xiaotong played the lead in Twenty Your Life On, an urban drama that received critical acclaim, and appeared in the romantic comedy Oversize Love. In 2021, she continued with the historical romantic drama A Girl Like Me.

In 2022, she returned for Twenty Your Life On 2 and appeared in the film Hu Tong, a work depicting social changes in China across generations of women. In 2023, she starred in the television series Mr. & Mrs. Chen, appeared in the variety show If You Are the One 3, and took on the role of adult Xie Qiao in the drama series Once and Forever.

In 2024, she portrayed Zhuang Xiaoting in the television drama Romance in the Alley and made a guest appearance as Jia Yuanchun in the film The Dream of the Red Mansions. In the field of voice acting, she provided the Chinese voice for the character Joy in the China release of the animated film Inside Out 2.

In 2025, she began working on two new television projects: Our Dazzling Days, playing the role of Yan Xiaodan (currently in production), and Liao Bu Qi De Wo Men, in which she plays Yang Jiajia.
