Hashimoto Kanna (born 1999 in Fukuoka) is a Japanese actress and former idol. Hashimoto currently operates primarily in film, television, and commercials in Japan. Before focusing on acting, Hashimoto was a member of the local idol group Rev. from DVL. Hashimoto is managed by Discovery Next and maintains a portfolio of live-action manga adaptations, commercials, and national television programs.
Early life
Hashimoto grew up in Fukuoka, Japan. In 2010, Hashimoto joined the local talent agency Active Hakata and began performing in regional television. This background led to participation in the group DVL and later Rev. from DVL, followed by minor roles and modeling.
Career
In 2007, Hashimoto signed with Active Hakata, a talent agency based in Fukuoka. Hashimoto appeared in local commercials for Sekisui House and McDonald’s and participated in community events.
In 2009, Hashimoto became a member of the dance-vocal group DVL, which later transitioned into the idol group Rev. from DVL.
In 2011, Hashimoto made a film debut in I Wish, directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda. During this period, Hashimoto participated in children’s plays organized by the management agency, as well as local television dramas and entertainment projects in Fukuoka.
In 2013, photographs of Hashimoto taken during a live performance of Rev. from DVL gained viral attention on the internet. This event led to national recognition for Hashimoto.
In 2014, Rev. from DVL released the debut single “LOVE-arigatou-“. Following this release, Hashimoto began receiving offers for films and television programs.
In 2015, Hashimoto starred in live-action film adaptations of the manga Assassination Classroom.
In 2016, Hashimoto released the solo single “Sailor Fuku to Kikanjū” and starred in the film Sailor Suit and Machine Gun: Graduation. Hashimoto received the Newcomer of the Year award at the 40th Japan Academy Film Prize for this role.
In 2017, Hashimoto pursued an independent acting career following the disbandment of Rev. from DVL. In 2017, Hashimoto appeared in the live-action films Gintama and The Disastrous Life of Saiki K., and starred in the Fuji TV drama Keishichō Ikimono Gakari.
Between 2017 and 2020, Hashimoto appeared in major film projects, including Gintama 2, Kingdom, and Kaguya-sama: Love Is War.
In 2022, Hashimoto transitioned to theater, performing the role of Chihiro in the stage adaptation of Spirited Away at the Imperial Theatre in Tokyo.
In 2024, Hashimoto performed this role during an international tour at the London Coliseum. In 2024, September, Hashimoto began starring in Omusubi, the 111th NHK morning drama (asadora).
In 2025, Hashimoto continued the lead role of Yoneda Yui in the NHK asadoraOmusubi until March. In 2025, September, Hashimoto appeared as Asuka Morisaki in the horror film Karada Sagashi: The Last Night.
