Imada Mio (今田 美桜) is a Japanese actress and model, born on March 5, 1997, in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. She began her career as a local model before shifting to acting in 2015. Imada is currently represented by Contents3 (formerly BIGFACE) and is active mainly in television dramas, films, and commercials in Japan.
Early Life
Imada was born and raised in Fukuoka in a family of three sisters. During her teenage years, she attended high school in her hometown. At the age of 16, while taking photos with friends in the Tenjin district, she was scouted and later joined the local modeling agency Cover Girl Entertainment.
At 17, she made her first foray into television by appearing on GeeBee, a program broadcast by FBS in Fukuoka. Around the same time, she also landed her earliest acting roles in both television and film, including the 2015 movie The Edge of Sin, which marked her transition from modeling to a professional acting career.
Career
Imada Mio began her career as a local model in Fukuoka around 2013 while still in high school. In 2015, she made her film debut in The Edge of Sin (Tsumi no Yohaku), marking her transition from modeling to acting.
In August 2016, she moved to Tokyo and signed with the management agency Contents3. That same year, she starred in the short film Kalanchoe no Hana, which was screened at several film festivals and served as a stepping stone for larger projects in her career.
In 2017, Imada was cast as Sasha Braus in the stage musical adaptation of Attack on Titan, but the production was canceled following an accident during rehearsals. During this period, she also began working as a gravure model for magazines while appearing in the film Demekin and television dramas such as Bokutachi ga Yarimashita and Minshu no Teki.
In 2018, she gained wider recognition through multiple TV dramas, including the Japanese remake of Suits, #Koe Dake Tenshi, and most notably Hana Nochi Hare: Hanadan Next Season, in which she played Airi Maya. The role significantly raised her national profile. That same year, she released her first photo book Vitality, which topped the Oricon weekly chart.
In 2019, Imada appeared in the film Kimi wa Tsukiyo ni Hikari Kagayaku, the drama 3-nen A-gumi, and featured on the cover of the novel Hyakki Yakō, published by three major Japanese publishing houses. Her simultaneous activities in acting and publishing further broadened her presence in the entertainment industry.
In 2020, she starred in a number of television projects, including the special edition of Hanzawa Naoki, Keiji to Kenji, and Oyabaka Seishun Hakusho. That same year, she released her second photo book Last Shot, which went through multiple reprints up to 2024.
A major breakthrough came in 2021 when Imada played Hinata Tachibana in the live-action film adaptation of Tokyo Revengers. The role earned her the Newcomer of the Year Award at the Japan Academy Film Prize. She also appeared in TV dramas such as Koi wa Deep ni and Okaeri Mone.
From 2022 to 2023, Imada took on leading roles in a series of major television dramas, including Waru: Who Cried the Most in the Office, Trillion Game, The Last Man: The Blind Profiler, and My Happy Marriage (Watashi no Shiawasenai Kekkon). These roles solidified her standing in both television and film.
In 2024, she continued to maintain a strong presence with projects such as Hanasaki Mai Speaks Out, Where Does the Sea Begin, and appeared in the feature film Doctor-X: The Movie as Masako Oma.
By 2025, Imada starred in Trillion Game: The Movie and The Last Man: The Blind Profiler – First Love. Most notably, she was chosen as the lead actress in NHK’s morning drama series (Asadora) Anpan, portraying Nobu Asada—a career milestone in the Japanese entertainment industry.
