Jeong Yun-o, born Jeong Jae-hyun and professionally known as Jaehyun, is a South Korean singer and actor. He was born on February 14, 1997, in Seoul, South Korea. He is currently under SM Entertainment and is a member of NCT, actively promoting in the units NCT U, NCT 127, and NCT DoJaeJung.

Among the current generation of idols, Jaehyun is recognized as one of the stable vocalists with versatile performance skills and a stage presence shaped by years of experience.

Early Life

From the ages of five to ten, he lived in the state of Connecticut, United States. After returning to South Korea, Jaehyun continued his studies and honed his artistic talents. He later attended the School of Performing Arts Seoul (SOPA), a well-known institution that has trained many successful K-pop idols.

Career

Jaehyun began training at SM Entertainment in 2012 after being recruited outside his school. In 2013, he was introduced to the public as part of the pre-debut project SM Rookies.

Between 2014 and 2015, he took part in several pre-debut activities. He appeared on the program Exo 90:2014, performing remakes of 1990s hits with other future NCT members. From January to July 2015, he co-hosted the music show Show Champion alongside Doyoung. That same year, he joined Ten in the Hope Basketball All-Star charity game. He also performed “A Whole New World” on The Mickey Mouse Club, aired on Disney Channel Korea.

In April 2016, Jaehyun officially debuted with NCT U through the singles “The 7th Sense” and “Without You.” In July, he debuted again as a member of NCT 127 with the EP NCT #127, taking on the position of main vocalist.

By 2017, Jaehyun began to establish his individual career. He co-hosted the radio program NCT Night Night with Johnny starting in March. In November, he collaborated with singer d.ear on the track “Try Again” for SM Station. That same year, he appeared in the music video for “The Little Match Girl” by Wendy and Baek A-yeon. In early 2018, he returned with NCT U for the SM Station release “Timeless.”

From October 2019 to February 2021, Jaehyun served as an MC on the music program Inkigayo, maintaining a consistent television presence in Korea during this period.

In 2022, he released his first solo track “Forever Only” as part of the NCT Lab project. In 2023, he followed with another solo single, “Horizon.” In April of the same year, he debuted in the sub-unit NCT DoJaeJung alongside Doyoung and Jungwoo, releasing their first mini album Perfume.

In August 2024, Jaehyun released his first full-length solo album J, featuring eight tracks including Korean and English versions of the title song Smoke. Ahead of its official launch, he pre-released the singles Roses and Dandelion. On August 26, he held a listening event called Jaehyun, Vol. 1. Within the first week, J sold over 300,000 copies in South Korea and topped various charts across Asia. Smoke reached No. 1 on Korea’s Bugs chart, and the album claimed the top spot on China’s QQ Music digital album sales chart. A vinyl edition followed in October 2024.

Beyond music, Jaehyun expanded into acting. He starred in the college romance drama Dear. M, which aired in 2022. He has also been cast in the feature film You Will Die in 6 Hours and the upcoming television drama I Believe You.
