Kim So-hyun (김소현) is a South Korean actress, born on June 4, 1999. She began her career as a child actress and later advanced to leading roles in numerous television dramas and films. Kim So-hyun is currently active in South Korea in the field of acting.

Early life

Kim So-hyun was born in Australia. In 2003, when she was about four years old, her family moved back to South Korea. She has a younger brother and lost her father at the age of nine.

She attended Hoeryong Elementary School in Gyeonggi Province, then transferred to Towol Elementary School, graduating in February 2012. She went on to study at Yongin Munjung Middle School, graduating in 2015. Due to her busy acting schedule in high school, she chose homeschooling and passed the high school qualification exam in 2017. In the same year, Kim So-hyun enrolled in the Department of Theater at Hanyang University in South Korea.

Career

Kim So-hyun began her career in 2006 at the age of seven, appearing in the drama special Drama City: “Ten Minute, Minor”.

From 2007 to 2011, she appeared in several productions in supporting and child roles such as A Happy Woman (2007), Que Sera Sera (2007), Ja Myung Go (2009), Bread, Love and Dreams (2010), Sin of a Family (2011), and Spy Papa (2011). This period laid the foundation for the long-term path of Kim So-hyun’s acting career.

In 2012, she entered a growth phase with her role as young Yoon Bo-kyung in Moon Embracing the Sun, a drama that achieved high viewership ratings in South Korea. In the same year, she appeared in Rooftop Prince and starred in the web drama Ma Boy — her first leading role.

In 2013, Kim So-hyun appeared in Missing You (as young Lee Soo-yeon), IRIS II: New Generation, and The Suspicious Housekeeper. From this point, the name Kim So-hyun in K-pop and television became associated with teenage characters and school-themed roles.

The 2015–2016 period marked a turning point as she moved away from her child actress image. In 2015, Kim So-hyun starred in Who Are You: School 2015, portraying twin sisters Lee Eun-bi and Go Eun-byul. That same year, she stepped down from her position as MC of the music program Music Core after two years. In 2016, Kim So-hyun expanded her work with the film Pure Love, the web drama Nightmare Teacher, the television series Bring It On, Ghost, and also appeared in the film The Last Princess.

From 2017 to 2019, Kim So-hyun’s career continued to expand with more mature roles. In 2017, she starred in the historical drama The Emperor: Owner of the Mask.

In 2018, she took on the lead role of Song Geu-rim in the 16-episode KBS2 drama Radio Romance.

In 2019, Kim So-hyun played Dong Dong-joo in The Tale of Nokdu and also returned as the lead in Netflix’s original series Love Alarm.

In 2021, Kim So-hyun starred in River Where the Moon Rises, portraying Princess Pyeonggang, the general Yeom Ga-jin, and Queen Yeon.

In 2022, she signed with the management agency Ieum Hashtag, a subsidiary of Full Moon Entertainment.

In 2023, Kim So-hyun played the lead role of Mok Sol-hee in the 16-episode tvN drama My Lovely Liar.

In 2024, she starred in Serendipity’s Embrace (tvN) as Lee Hong-joo, an animation producer who reunites with her first love after 10 years.

In 2025, she returned in Good Boy (JTBC), taking on the role of Ji Han-na, a special police officer and former Olympic shooter who becomes involved in investigating a case connected to her father’s death.

In mid-2025, Kim So-hyun ended her exclusive contract with IEUM Hashtag. Shortly afterward, in August 2025, she signed with PEACHY Company, marking a new chapter in her professional career.

Outside of acting, Kim So-hyun has hosted various programs, including Music Core and the idol survival show Under Nineteen in 2019. In addition, she has appeared in commercials, collaborated with numerous fashion and beauty brands, and participated in international events as a representative of young South Korean artists.
