He began his career in South Korea and was a member of the boy group EXO, as well as its sub-unit EXO-M, where he served as a vocalist and dancer. After leaving EXO in 2014, he pursued a solo career in China, actively working in both music and film.

Early Life

Lu Han attended Yu Ying Primary School, followed by Beijing Shida Middle School and Haidian Foreign Language Shi Yan School. During his school years, he developed a strong interest in the arts and demonstrated talent in singing and performing. After completing high school, he joined a study-abroad program in South Korea, majoring in Applied Music at the Seoul Institute of the Arts, and also participated as an exchange student at Yonsei University.

In 2010, through a friend’s introduction, he was scouted by SM Entertainment and signed as a trainee. In December 2011, Lu Han officially debuted with EXO, marking the beginning of his professional career in the entertainment industry.

Career

In April 2012, Lu Han debuted as a member of the boy group EXO and its sub-unit EXO-M, serving as a vocalist and dancer. EXO quickly rose to become one of the most prominent groups in South Korea and China in the early 2010s.

On October 10, 2014, Lu Han filed a lawsuit at the Seoul Central District Court to nullify his exclusive contract with SM Entertainment and effectively left EXO and returning to China. He later established Lu Han Studio to manage his solo career.

In September 2015, he released his first digital EP, Reloaded I, which sold over one million copies on QQ Music within five days, setting a record for digital album sales in China. In December the same year, he released his first studio album, Reloaded, which became the first album from mainland China to be certified Platinum by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI). At the QQ Music Awards 2016, Lu Han won Best Digital Album and Male Singer of the Year.

In 2016, he embarked on his first solo concert tour, Reloaded: 2016 Lu Han 1st China Tour, performing in major cities across China. That same year, he released two EPs, Xperience and Xplore, working with international producers such as The Picard Brothers.

In 2017, he launched the XXVII Project, releasing multiple digital singles and the album XXVII+ in September. The project earned him Album of the Year at the Asian Music Gala.

During 2018–2019, Lu Han continued with the π-volume series. π-volume.1 (April 2019) sold approximately 3.48 million copies, while π-volume.2 (August 2019) sold about 1.32 million copies on Chinese music platforms.

From 2020 onward, Lu Han released several standalone digital singles, appeared on variety shows, and shifted some focus toward acting.

Between 2020 and 2021, he continued the π Project with π-volume.3 and π-volume.4, releasing singles including “Dream Up (这就是我)” and “Slow Motion (慢慢)”.

In 2021, he released the studio album π: Ready To Play?, accompanied by the single “Gone With the Wind (风吹过)”, which sold nearly 2 million copies on Chinese digital music platforms.

In 2022 and 2023, Lu Han released several digital singles, including “Slow Ride (兜风)”, “Keep Me Alive”, “Crossing the Universe”, and “P.XyZ (漂向宇宙尽头)”. These songs charted on the TME UNI Charts in China, maintaining his presence in the digital music market.

In 2024, he released consecutive singles: “1.1”, “Shadow (影子)”, “Dream All Summer (夏夜)”, “That’s Right”, “Wang Wang (往往)”, and “Fill Me In Love.” He also released a remix of “Dream All Summer” and an alternate version of “Fill Me In Love.” These tracks were distributed on major platforms such as Apple Music and Spotify, further reinforcing his digital-first release strategy.

As of 2025, Lu Han continues to maintain a diverse career in music, acting, advertising, and collaborative projects within the Chinese entertainment industry.
