Ahyeon (full name: Jung Ahyeon), born in 2007, is a South Korean singer, rapper, and dancer. She serves as the main vocalist, lead rapper, and lead dancer of the K-pop girl group BABYMONSTER.
Early Life
Ahyeon was born in Chuncheon, Gangwon-do Province, into a family with an artistic background. She has a younger brother. Currently, she is studying Applied Music at Hanlim Arts High School while simultaneously managing her idol activities.
Career Highlights
Ahyeon began her trainee journey at YG Entertainment in 2018 after passing auditions for both JYP Entertainment and Banana Culture at just 11 years old.
On January 16, 2023, YG Entertainment introduced Ahyeon as the “definite center” of BABYMONSTER — a fixed center position in terms of visual and performance within the group lineup. However, in November 2023, she temporarily halted her activities due to health issues, resulting in BABYMONSTER debuting with a 6-member lineup.
After two months of recovery, Ahyeon returned to the group’s official lineup with the debut mini album BABYMONS7ER, released on April 1, 2024. She took on key vocal and rap lines in tracks like “SHEESH,” “Batter Up,” and the re-recorded version of “Stuck In The Middle.”
During the “SHEESH” promotions, Ahyeon’s solo rap part at the 1:00 mark was praised by K-pop producers such as Pdogg (BigHit) and reviewers from KpopHerald as “a sharp twist flow that kicks off the song’s climax.” Prior to debut, her cover of Charlie Puth’s “Dangerously” garnered nearly 40 million views on YouTube, becoming her first viral solo content.
In 2025, Ahyeon and BABYMONSTER embarked on their first world tour, performing in large stadiums across Asia, the United States, and Japan.
Strengths
Ahyeon simultaneously holds three positions—main vocalist, lead rapper, and lead dancer—a rare combination in Gen Z girl groups, with only a few idols like Karina (aespa) or Yunjin (LE SSERAFIM) being considered comparable.
She possesses a technically compressed vocal tone and excellent breath control during live performances. She also has a sharp memory for choreography and executes movements with agility, especially in the intense dance breaks of “Batter Up” and “SHEESH.” Because of this, her peers affectionately nicknamed her “Ahyeon-robot.”
Additionally, Ahyeon is fluent in both Korean and English, allowing her to connect with international fans through global live streams and interviews.
Challenges
In November 2023, Ahyeon suspended her activities due to health issues, which led to BABYMONSTER’s debut lineup being reduced to six members. Her absence sparked intense discussions across international K-pop forums. She made her comeback in January 2024, following YG Entertainment’s official announcement of her recovery.
Ahyeon’s return during the “SHEESH” promotions on April 1, 2024, triggered a fan-led campaign with the hashtag #WelcomeBackAhyeon, amassing millions of interactions within just 24 hours of the teaser release that morning.
Fashion
Ahyeon often wears high-waisted jeans or mini skirts paired with crop tops, layered with oversized jackets or mesh tops. She prefers neutral tones like black, white, and grey, accentuated with small, bright or metallic accessories, creating a youthful and modern twist on early 2000s fashion. Despite varying outfits, her styling consistently revolves around streetwear aesthetics.
She has appeared in youth fashion magazines such as Nylon Korea and Dazed Korea, standing out with her urban chic vibe, even though she has yet to be officially appointed as a brand ambassador. On Instagram, BABYMONSTER’s posts featuring Ahyeon often record the highest engagement. Her outfit choices are frequently shared by K-fashion platforms like KakaoStyle and various online fashion media in Korea, attracting tens of thousands of likes per post.
