Changbin (born Seo Chang-bin on August 11, 1999) is a South Korean singer and rapper who is primarily active in the South Korean music industry. He is a member of the boy group Stray Kids, serving as the main rapper and also participating in songwriting and music production for the group.

Early life

Changbin was born in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, and grew up in Uiwang and Seoul. He has an older sister and attended Galmoe Elementary School before graduating from Bora High School on February 6, 2018. Changbin developed a desire to become a singer after receiving praise for his performance at a school music festival.

Initially, his parents did not support his pursuit of a music career; however, when he was accepted as a trainee at JYP Entertainment, they were delighted and expressed that they should have allowed him to study music earlier.

Changbin underwent a two-year training period at JYP Entertainment, focusing on vocals, dance, and music production.

Career

On October 17, 2017, Changbin appeared on the Mnet reality survival show Stray Kids, participating in various missions and performances until the program concluded on December 19, 2017.

Changbin officially debuted with Stray Kids on March 25, 2018, with the extended play (EP) I Am Not, for which he contributed to the songwriting and production of several tracks. Later in 2018, Stray Kids released two subsequent EPs in the I Am series: I Am Who in August and I Am You in October.

In February 2019, Changbin was featured in the song “You…Like the Wind” from Yoon Ji-sung’s debut album. During the same year, Stray Kids released the Clé EP series, including Clé 1: Miroh, Clé 2: Yellow Wood, and Clé: Levanter. The title track “Miroh” earned the group their first South Korean music program win.

In 2020, Changbin competed in the rap competition show Show Me the Money 9, passing the first round before being eliminated during the 60 Seconds Team Trial. That year, Stray Kids released their first studio album, Go Live, featuring the lead single “God’s Menu,” followed by the reissue In Life. Changbin participated in the track “We Go” alongside Bang Chan and Han.

In 2021, Stray Kids released their second studio album, Noeasy, with the title track “Thunderous.” Changbin featured in the tracks “Surfin'” with Lee Know and Felix, and “Sorry, I Love You,” which he composed. On October 28, 2021, Changbin featured on the track “Mirror Mirror” by Thai rappers F.Hero and Milli; the song later won Best Collaboration at the Thailand Music Awards.

In 2022, Stray Kids released two EPs, Oddinary and Maxident, both of which reached number one on the US Billboard 200. Changbin released solo tracks including “Doodle,” “Streetlight” (featuring Bang Chan), and “Muddy Water” (with Felix, Hyunjin, and Han) on Oddinary, as well as “3Racha” (with Bang Chan and Han) on Maxident.

In February 2023, Changbin and the other members of 3Racha were promoted to full members of the Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA), with Changbin having 181 registered songs as of April 2025. On September 1, 2023, Changbin released the promotional single “Fly High” for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5. In 2023, Stray Kids released two studio albums, 5-Star and Rock-Star, both of which peaked at number one on the Billboard 200.

In May 2024, Changbin and Stray Kids attended the Met Gala as guests of Tommy Hilfiger. On July 19, 2024, Stray Kids released the EP Ate, which reached number one on the Billboard 200, followed by the mixtape Hop on December 13, 2024, which also achieved the same chart position and included Changbin’s solo track “Ultra.” On October 15, 2024, Changbin featured on and co-wrote the song “Vay” from Itzy’s EP Gold.

In 2025, Changbin and Stray Kids released the studio album Karma in August and the mixtape Do It in November, both of which reached number one on the Billboard 200. On March 21, 2025, Changbin released the track “Burnin’ Tires” with I.N as part of the single album Mixtape: Dominate. Changbin also featured on the song “R&B Me” by Jun. K from the EP Dear My Muse, released in 2025.
