Danielle—born Danielle June Marsh and known in Korean as Mo Ji-hye (모지혜)—is an Australian-Korean singer, dancer, and actress, born April 11, 2005, in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. She is a member of the K-pop girl group NewJeans (recently rebranded as NJZ) under ADOR, a subsidiary of HYBE Labels, serving as the group’s Main Vocalist and Dancer.
Danielle holds dual Australian–Korean citizenship; her father, Andrew Marsh, is Australian, and her mother, Mo Ji-won, is Korean. Among Gen Z idols, she stands out for her multilingual ability, speaking fluent English and Korean with a distinctive Australian accent.
Early Life
At age four (2009), her family relocated from Australia to Paju, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea so that she and her older sister, Olivia, could experience Korean culture, while their father worked there as an English teacher.
Between the ages of five and eight, Danielle studied ballet and acting and began working as a child model. She became a familiar face on Korean television, appearing on programs such as “Rainbow Kindergarten” (2011, tvN), “My Heart’s Crayon” (2011, SBS), “Jesse’s Play Kitchen” (2012, EBS), and “Shinhwa Broadcast” (2012, JTBC) under her Korean name, Mo Ji-hye.
In 2012, when she was seven, the family returned to Australia, where Danielle attended Valentine Public School before leaving formal schooling to pursue a singing career. She began her trainee period during middle school at YG Entertainment, later moving to Source Music (HYBE) in early 2020, where she trained for two and a half years before making her debut.
Career
In 2016, Danielle performed in the musical Matilda in Australia and won the Audience Choice Award at the 2018 Young Artist Festival in Sydney with her rendition of “Sitting On Top of the World.”
In 2020, she auditioned for HYBE with a cover of “Best Part” by Daniel Caesar and became a trainee under Source Music. By late 2021, Danielle moved to ADOR along with the future members of NewJeans.
On July 22, 2022, her career entered its official phase when she debuted with NewJeans through the single “Attention.” The track reached No. 1 on the Korean Circle Digital Chart and won Best K-pop Song at the 20th Korean Music Awards. Their debut EP New Jeans, released in August 2022, included the tracks “Hype Boy,” “Cookie,” and “Hurt.”
In 2023, Danielle took a major step forward by voicing Ariel in the Korean-language version of the live-action film The Little Mermaid. Her rendition of the soundtrack single “Part of Your World” peaked at No. 2 on Billboard Hot Trending Songs on May 17. That same year, NewJeans released the album OMG (January 2023) with the title tracks “Ditto” and “OMG,” with “Ditto” becoming the longest-running No. 1 song on the Circle Digital Chart.
The group’s international profile grew with the release of the album Get Up in July 2023, featuring the singles “Get Up,” “Super Shy,” and “ETA.” NewJeans became the first K-pop girl group to receive the Special Achievement Award at the 65th Japan Record Awards, and Danielle, alongside the group, was honored in Billboard’s Women in Music 2024 list.
Beyond music, Danielle expanded into fashion, serving as a global ambassador for Burberry under Creative Director Daniel Lee. She also collaborated with YSL Beauty and attended an Omega event in Japan in June 2025 as an ambassador for the Swiss luxury watch brand.
In November 2024, Danielle and her NewJeans bandmates ended their contract with ADOR and entered an ongoing legal dispute in South Korea.
By February 2025, the group officially rebranded as NJZ and began operating independently. Danielle continued her activities as an MC at the “Korea on Stage – New Generation” concert organized by the Cultural Heritage Administration in May 2024 and performed a solo stage at Complexcon Hong Kong 2025.
However, in March 2025, a court ruling prohibited NewJeans from independent activities, requiring them to maintain their contract with ADOR until a final judgment is reached. At present, Danielle and NJZ remain on hiatus from group promotions.
