Gaeul (real name Kim Ga-eul; born September 24, 2002) is a South Korean rapper, singer, songwriter, and dancer under Starship Entertainment. She is the oldest member of IVE and serves as the group’s main dancer and lead rapper.

Early Life

From an early age, Gaeul showed an aptitude for dance by participating in school performances and teaching herself K-pop choreography through her favorite music videos. She attended Incheon Buwon Elementary School and Bupyeongseo Girls’ Middle School. During her middle school years, she joined the dance club and served as class president.

Career

Gaeul began her career in the South Korean music industry after joining Starship Entertainment as a trainee in 2017. During her training period, she participated in the company’s internal programs focused on dance, rap, and performance skills in preparation for the debut of a new girl group.

In December 2021, Gaeul officially debuted as a member of IVE with the single ELEVEN. Following her debut, she took part in promotional activities on televised music programs and live stages. Within the group, she serves as the main dancer, taking responsibility for choreography-led performances on official stages.

Throughout 2022, Gaeul continued her activities with the group through a series of music releases and domestic promotional schedules. She performed rap parts in the songs released during this period and appeared at music events and year-end stages.

In 2023, Gaeul participated in songwriting for the first time by writing the rap verse for the track ROYAL from the studio album I’ve IVE. This marked her first official lyricist credit. In the same year, she also contributed lyrics to the songs Kitsch, Hypnosis, Not Your Girl, and Next Page, released across the group’s albums and EPs.

Alongside music releases, Gaeul took part in concert tours and live performances held across multiple Asian countries as part of group-organized tours and music events. These activities expanded her performance experience beyond the domestic market.

In January 2024, Gaeul participated in the English-language single All Night, a collaboration between IVE and American rapper Saweetie, released as a digital single. In April of the same year, she continued activities with the EP Ive Switch, performing dance and rap parts during related promotional schedules.

In 2025, Gaeul remained active through the release of the EP Ive Empathy and participation in concerts and international music festivals. During this period, she continued her activities as a group member, focusing on stage performances and contributing rap lyrics to released music projects.
