Hanni, whose birth name is Pham Ngoc Han, is a Vietnamese-Australian singer and rapper. She was born on October 6, 2004, in Melbourne, Australia. Hanni was the sub-vocalist and sub-rapper of the K-pop girl group NJZ (formerly NewJeans) and is now pursuing an independent career after leaving ADOR.
Early life
From a young age, Hanni showed a strong passion for music and dance in Melbourne. She practiced Taekwondo and ballet as a child, influenced by her grandfather, who worked at a Taekwondo academy in Australia. While in fourth grade, she appeared on The Voice Kids Australia and later became an active member of Aemina Dance Crew, a group specializing in K-pop dance covers.
She has a unique ability to learn choreography through visualization, linking lyrics to movements by imagining them as animated scenes in her mind.
In 2019, at the age of 15, Hanni took part in HYBE Corporation’s Plus Global Auditions in Melbourne and was the only trainee selected from that audition.
Career
Hanni’s trainee period lasted two and a half years starting in 2020 at Source Music, where she received comprehensive training. She was recognized as the fastest learner in choreography within the group, thanks to her method of associating lyrics with visualized movements in her mind.
In 2021, she appeared alongside Minji in BTS’s Permission to Dance music video, marking her first step toward debut.
Hanni officially debuted on July 22, 2022, as a member of NewJeans with the single Attention, taking on the roles of sub-vocalist and sub-rapper. She also contributed to the lyrics of Hype Boy and OMG.
Just three months after her debut, Hanni signed a global brand ambassador contract with Gucci, becoming the youngest representative of the fashion house. In October 2022, she attended the Gucci Fall 2023 show at Milan Fashion Week as an official ambassador.
In 2023, her commercial influence expanded further when she was appointed global ambassador for Armani Beauty. She appeared in campaigns for the Power Fabric+ Foundation and Lip Maestro Satin lipstick, while also gracing the covers of Elle D Edition and W Korea.
In August 2023, Hanni ventured into hosting, serving as MC for the Korea Grand Music Awards alongside Nam Ji-hyun and Winter of aespa. It was her first time taking on the role of host at a major music event.
By 2024, Hanni deepened her partnership with Gucci, becoming the global ambassador for Gucci Beauty in April. She featured in campaigns for the Rouge à Lèvres Mat lipstick line and other makeup products. In September 2024, she drew attention with a striking backless outfit at the Gucci SS25 Womenswear Fashion Show in Milan.
At the end of 2024, NewJeans, including Hanni, ended their contract with ADOR. In February 2025, Hanni and the members announced they would continue under the new name NJZ and held their first solo Instagram livestream.
On March 23, 2025, she made her solo debut with the track My Boo at ComplexCon Hong Kong.
However, her independent career faced challenges when, in March 2025, a court issued a temporary injunction restricting NJZ’s commercial activities. Following their Hong Kong performance, NJZ announced a complete suspension of all plans in compliance with the legal ruling.
