Hyein, born Lee Hyein (이혜인) on April 21, 2008, in Incheon, is a South Korean singer, dancer, and model. She is the youngest member of the girl group NewJeans under ADOR, serving as a sub-vocalist and dancer, and is noted for her 170 cm height and versatile stage presence. (The group has since changed its name to NJZ and is currently on hiatus due to legal disputes.)
Early Life
Lee Hyein grew up with her parents, an older sister born in 2003, and an older brother born in 2005. She attended Inseong Elementary School before transferring to Munhak Elementary School, leaving after passing the equivalent qualification exam to focus on her career. She also enrolled at Korea International Christian School but later withdrew.
Hyein began modeling at the age of eight and quickly became a prominent face in the industry. In 2017, at just nine years old, she joined the children’s group U.SSO Girl under the stage name U.Jeong alongside Rora of BABYMONSTER.
Career
Starting as a child model in 2016, Hyein debuted with U.SSO Girl in 2017 and left the group in 2018.
From 2019, she was active in Play with Me Club, the dance team SIXDANCE, appeared on the children’s program Live Talk! Talk! Boni Hani!, and played the lead role in the web drama The Girl’s Double Life. She modeled for the snapback brand PRANKERS, walked the runway at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Moscow, and won the Little Look of the Year award in 2019.
In January 2021, Hyein became a trainee at Source Music and ADOR, making her official debut with NewJeans on July 22, 2022, with the single “Attention.” In December 2022, she became the youngest global ambassador for Louis Vuitton, and in 2023 she appeared as the youngest cover model for Harper’s Bazaar Korea.
In February 2024, Hyein featured on IU’s track “Shh..,” which reached the top 20 on the Circle Digital Chart.
In December 2024, her career reached a turning point when NewJeans announced the termination of their contract with ADOR and rebranded as NJZ.
In March 2025, the Seoul court issued an order preventing the group from conducting independent commercial activities, forcing Hyein and the other NJZ members to suspend all artistic endeavors.
