Jimin, born Park Ji-min on October 13, 1995, is a South Korean singer, songwriter, and dancer. In 2013, he debuted as a member of the South Korean boy group BTS under the record label Big Hit Entertainment, serving as a main dancer and lead vocalist.

Early life

Park Ji-min was born in Geumjeong District, Busan, South Korea. He attended Busan’s Hodong Elementary School and Yonsan Middle School. During middle school, Park attended Just Dance Academy, where he trained in popping and locking dance. Prior to becoming a trainee, Park studied contemporary dance at Busan High School of Arts.

In 2012, Park passed an audition for Big Hit Entertainment, subsequently moving to Seoul to attend Korean Arts High School, from which he graduated in 2014. Park was the final member added to the lineup of BTS, completing a training period of approximately six months before his official debut.

Career

On June 13, 2013, Jimin debuted as a member of BTS on Mnet’s M Countdown with the single “No More Dream” from the group’s debut single album, 2 Cool 4 Skool. Within the group, he holds the positions of main dancer and lead vocalist.

In 2016, Park released his first solo track, “Lie,” as part of the album Wings. In 2017, he released “Serendipity,” which initially served as a comeback trailer before being included in the album Love Yourself: Her. In 2018, Park released his first independent solo single, “Promise.”

In 2020, the solo track “Filter” was released on the album Map of the Soul: 7, followed by the digital single “Christmas Love.” In 2022, Park collaborated with Ha Sung-woon on the song “With You” for the television series Our Blues.

In 2023, Park released his debut solo album, Face. The album reached high positions on international music charts, with the lead single “Like Crazy” peaking at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Late in 2023, Park enlisted in the South Korean military to fulfill his mandatory service.

On June 28, 2024, Park released the pre-release single “Smeraldo Garden Marching Band” featuring Loco. His second solo album, Muse, was released on July 19, 2024, supported by the single “Who.” On July 2, 2024, he appeared in the travel reality series Are You Sure?! alongside Jung Kook on Disney+, with the second season scheduled for 2025.

In 2025, Park completed his military service and was discharged. During the same year, he and the members of BTS announced plans for a comeback involving a new album and a world tour scheduled for 2026.
