JINI, born Choi Yun-jin on April 16, 2004, is a South Korean singer and actress. She debuted as a member of the South Korean girl group NMIXX in February 2022, serving as a vocalist, rapper, and dancer. After departing from NMIXX and JYP Entertainment on December 9, 2022, she joined the agency ATOC as a solo artist.
Early life
JINI was born in Busan, South Korea, and has a younger brother born in 2011. She attended Haesong Elementary School and Dongbaek Middle School before transferring to Hansan Middle School. She later majored in entertainment at Hanlim Multi Art School.
During her childhood, JINI aspired to become an idol after watching the group KARA perform on a music program. While in elementary school, she attended a dance academy with a friend, where representatives from JYP Entertainment held an open audition. She performed Apink’s “No, No, No” and a jazz dance routine.
In 2016, JINI joined JYP Entertainment as a trainee and appeared in JYP Trainee Mini Showcases from 2016 to 2019.
Career
In 2016, JINI joined JYP Entertainment as a trainee following a casting at a dance academy and underwent approximately six years of training.
In 2017, she appeared on the survival show Stray Kids as a JYP Entertainment trainee.
On November 8, 2018, JINI appeared in the music video for “Lucky Charm” by Nichkhun of 2PM.
On August 6, 2021, JYP Entertainment announced JINI as one of the first three members of NMIXX, alongside Jiwoo and Kyujin, through a dance performance video.
In 2022, on February 22, she debuted with the girl group NMIXX, holding the roles of center, main dancer, lead rapper, and sub vocalist, and released the single album Ad Mare; on December 9 of the same year, she left the group and terminated her contract with JYP Entertainment for personal reasons.
In 2023, JINI signed an exclusive contract with United Artist Production on April 14 and began using the stylized stage name JINI. On October 11, she released the EP An Iron Hand in a Velvet Glove, featuring the lead single “C’mon” (featuring Aminé).
In 2024, JINI released the soundtrack single “Starlight” for the webtoon No Office Romance!.
In 2025, she played the lead role of Ji-hyo in the Kanta short-form horror web series Demon’s Profile Picture.
In 2026, on January 6, JINI took on the lead role of Jane in the feature film Boy.
