Kim Ji-soo (Korean: 김지수), born on January 3, 1995, in Gunpo, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, is a South Korean singer and actress, professionally known as Jisoo. She is a member of the K-pop girl group BLACKPINK under YG Entertainment, where she serves as the lead vocalist and visual of the group.
Early Life
Jisoo was born into a family of five and is the youngest child, with one older brother and one older sister. During her childhood, she enjoyed sports, particularly basketball and taekwondo, and once dreamed of becoming a painter or writer. While in high school, she attended the School of Performing Arts Seoul (SOPA), where she actively participated in the drama club starting in her second year. Her involvement in school arts activities allowed her to gain performance experience and prepared her for a career in the entertainment industry.
Career
In 2011, Jisoo passed an audition and became a trainee under YG Entertainment. Before officially debuting with BLACKPINK, she appeared in several artistic projects, including cameos in the music videos Spoiler + Happen Ending by Epik High and I’m Different by Hi Suhyun (2014), as well as in the television drama The Producers (2015).
On August 8, 2016, Jisoo officially debuted as a member of BLACKPINK with the single album Square One, featuring two tracks: “Whistle” and “Boombayah.” “Whistle” claimed the No. 1 spot on the Gaon Digital Chart, South Korea’s official digital music chart, while “Boombayah” topped the Billboard World Digital Songs Chart in the U.S.
Between 2017 and 2018, Jisoo co-hosted Inkigayo alongside Jin-young (B1A4) and Doyoung (NCT).
In 2015, she made a cameo appearance in the KBS comedy-drama The Producers. From 2021 to 2022, Jisoo played the female lead, Eun Young-ro, in Snowdrop—a romance-political drama set in late-1980s South Korea. The role earned her the Best Actress award at the 2022 Seoul International Drama Awards.
In 2023, Jisoo released her first solo album, ME, selling 1.03 million copies in its first week—a record-breaking achievement, making it the best-selling album by a female solo artist in Korean history. The title track “Flower” peaked at No. 2 on both the Circle Digital Chart and the Billboard Global 200. That same year, she performed with BLACKPINK at major festivals such as Coachella (U.S.) and British Summer Time Hyde Park (London).
In 2024, Jisoo launched her own independent brand, Blissoo, and signed with Warner Records. Her EP Amortage, featuring the track “Earthquake”, reached No. 1 on the Billboard World Digital Songs Chart. In 2025, she embarked on her first solo tour across major Asian cities including Tokyo, Bangkok, Jakarta, and Seoul.
Beyond music and acting, Jisoo is a global ambassador for Dior (fashion and beauty) and Cartier. She attended Dior’s Paris Fashion Week shows in 2022 and 2023, and fronted Cartier’s “Panthère de Cartier” campaign in 2023. She also collaborated with Tommy Hilfiger for the Fall/Winter 2024 collection.
