Jisoo, born Kim Ji-soo on January 3, 1995, in Gunpo, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, is a South Korean singer and actress. Kim is a member of the K-pop girl group BLACKPINK under YG Entertainment.
Early life
Kim was born as the youngest of three children, with one older brother and one older sister. During her childhood, Kim participated in sports, specifically basketball and taekwondo, and expressed interest in becoming a painter or a writer. Kim attended the School of Performing Arts Seoul (SOPA) and joined the drama club during her second year of high school.
Career
In 2011, Kim passed auditions to become a trainee at YG Entertainment. Prior to her official debut with BLACKPINK, Kim appeared in several artistic projects, including cameo roles in the music videos for “Spoiler + Happen Ending” by Epik High and “I’m Different” by Hi Suhyun in 2014. Kim also appeared in the television series The Producers in 2015.
On August 8, 2016, Kim officially debuted as a member of BLACKPINK with the release of the single album Square One, featuring the tracks “Whistle” and “Boombayah.” “Whistle” reached number one on the Gaon Digital Chart, while “Boombayah” topped the Billboard World Digital Songs Chart in the United States.
Between 2017 and 2018, Kim served as an MC for the music program Inkigayo alongside Jin-young and Doyoung.
From 2021 to 2022, Kim played the lead role of Eun Young-ro in the television series Snowdrop, set in South Korea during the late 1980s. For this performance, Kim received the Best Actress award at the 2022 Seoul International Drama Awards.
In 2023, Kim released her debut solo album ME, which sold 1.03 million copies in its first week, setting a record for the best-selling album by a female solo artist in South Korean music history. The lead single “Flower” peaked at number two on the Circle Digital Chart and the Billboard Global 200. During the same year, Kim performed with BLACKPINK at major music festivals, including Coachella in the United States and British Summer Time Hyde Park in London.
In 2024, Kim established her independent label, Blissoo, and signed with Warner Records. The EP Amortage, featuring the track “Earthquake,” reached number one on the Billboard World Digital Songs Chart.
In 2025, Kim released the solo mini-album Amortage on February 14 and secured a global distribution deal with Warner Records for international activities. The album ME (2023) sold 1.03 million copies within the first two days of release, becoming the best-selling album by a female solo artist on the Circle Album Chart and receiving a “Million” certification from the KMCA. Hanteo Chart recorded sales of 1,021,447 copies for the album.
Kim’s portrayal of Eun Young-ro in Snowdrop earned her the Outstanding Korean Actress award at the 2022 Seoul International Drama Awards, based on global audience voting.
In 2025, Kim was awarded the Outstanding Asian Star award at the Seoul International Drama Awards for her role as Kang Yeong-ju in Newtopia, receiving 38.28% of the total votes.
