Jungkook, born Jeon Jung-kook on September 1, 1997, is a South Korean singer and a member of the boy band BTS, formed by Big Hit Entertainment. Jungkook debuted with BTS on June 13, 2013, with the single album 2 Cool 4 Skool. Within the group, Jungkook serves as the main vocalist and is the youngest member.

Early life

Jungkook was born and raised in Busan, South Korea. Jungkook attended Baekyang Elementary and Middle Schools in Busan. In 2011, at age 13, Jungkook auditioned for the talent show Superstar K in Daegu. Although not selected, Jungkook received offers from several entertainment agencies and chose to join Big Hit Entertainment as a trainee after observing a performance by RM, who later became the leader of BTS. Upon moving to Seoul, Jungkook attended Singu Middle School.

In the summer of 2012, Jungkook traveled to Los Angeles, California, to receive dance training at Movement Lifestyle in preparation for debut. During this period, Jungkook appeared in the music video for Jo Kwon’s “I’m Da One” and worked as a backup dancer for the group Glam. Jungkook graduated from the School of Performing Arts Seoul in February 2017.

Career

In 2013, Jungkook debuted as a member of BTS on June 13 with the album 2 Cool 4 Skool. Jungkook contributed to the songwriting of “No More Dream” and “We Are Bulletproof Pt. 2” for the debut release.

In 2015, Jungkook participated in the “One Dream, One Korea” campaign alongside various South Korean artists. Jungkook co-produced the track “Love Is Not Over” for the BTS EP The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Pt. 1. In September, the collaboration track was released and subsequently performed at the One K Concert in Seoul on October 15.

In 2016, Jungkook performed the solo track “Begin” on the BTS album Wings. Jungkook appeared in the pilot episode of the program Flower Crew, participated in Celebrity Bromance, and competed on King of Mask Singer under the name “Fencing Man.”

In 2018, Jungkook released the second solo track “Euphoria” accompanied by a nine-minute short film on April 5. The song reached number five on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart. The full version was included in the album Love Yourself: Answer on August 24. Jungkook co-produced the song “Magic Shop” for the album Love Yourself: Tear. In October, Jungkook was awarded the fifth-class Hwagwan Order of Cultural Merit by President Moon Jae-in. On November 6, Jungkook collaborated with American singer Charlie Puth for a performance of “We Don’t Talk Anymore” at the MBC Plus X Genie Music Awards.

In 2020, Jungkook performed the third solo track “My Time” for the album Map of the Soul: 7. The song debuted at number 84 on the Billboard Hot 100. On June 4, Jungkook released the self-produced track “Still With You” for free on SoundCloud to commemorate the anniversary of the group’s debut.

In 2021, Jungkook contributed to the composition of “Film Out.” In July, Jungkook was appointed as a Special Presidential Envoy for Future Generations and Culture by President Moon Jae-in.

In 2022, Jungkook released “Stay Alive” for the webtoon 7Fates: Chakho in February, followed by “My You” on June 12. Jungkook featured on Charlie Puth’s “Left and Right” in June and released “Dreamers” on November 20. Jungkook performed at the opening ceremony of the 2022 FIFA World Cup alongside Fahad Al Kubaisi.

In 2023, Jungkook released the single “Seven” featuring Latto on July 14 and performed as a headliner at the Global Citizen Festival on September 23. This was followed by the release of “3D” featuring Jack Harlow on September 29 and “Too Much” with the Kid Laroi and Central Cee in October. Jungkook released the studio album Golden and the single “Standing Next to You” on November 3. Jungkook enlisted for mandatory military service on December 12 alongside Jimin.

In 2024, Jungkook appeared in the reality program Are You Sure?! with Jimin, which began airing on Disney+ on August 8. The documentary film I Am Still, chronicling the production of Golden, was released globally on September 18.

In 2025, Jungkook completed military service and was discharged on June 11. In December, the second season of Are You Sure?! was released. According to reports from Sports Hankooki in May, Jungkook is preparing for a comeback album and a subsequent world tour.
