Cho Mi-yeon (Korean: 조미연), stage name Miyeon, is a South Korean singer and actress, born on January 31, 1997, in Incheon, South Korea. She is currently active in the music industry as a member of the girl group i-dle under Cube Entertainment, where she serves as the group’s main vocalist and visual.

Early life

Miyeon was a trainee at YG Entertainment from 2010 to 2015 and was once part of the pre-debut project PINKPUNK. She was also considered a strong candidate to debut with BLACKPINK but left the company after repeated delays. Afterwards, she continued to study vocal techniques, songwriting, and music production before signing with Cube Entertainment, where she trained for about a year before officially debuting with (G)I-DLE in 2018.

Career

In 2016, Miyeon worked as a freelancer and joined Lim Seul-ong’s Canada tour.

In 2017, she appeared in his music video You and became a trainee at Cube Entertainment.

On May 2, 2018, Miyeon officially debuted with (G)I-DLE through the mini album I Am and the title track Latata, taking the role of main vocalist and visual. Just 20 days later, the group won their first music show trophy on The Show. In October 2018, Miyeon participated in Riot Games’ virtual K-pop project group K/DA with the track Pop/Stars, voicing the character Ahri.

In 2019, she collaborated with rapper Hangzoo on the track Cart and debuted in Japan with (G)I-DLE through the EP Latata. From August to October, the group took part in the competition program Queendom.

In 2020, Miyeon appeared on King of Mask Singer and reprised her role as Ahri in K/DA’s songs The Baddest and More. In March, (G)I-DLE released the EP I Trust with the title track Oh My God. In September, she played the lead role in the web drama Replay: The Moment and contributed to several OSTs.

In 2021, Miyeon became the radio host of Gossip Idle and a co-MC for M Countdown. Early that year, (G)I-DLE released the EP I Burn with the title track Hwaa. In May, she supported BTOB in Kingdom: Legendary War. Later that year, she appeared in various music projects and web dramas.

On April 27, 2022, she made her solo debut with the EP My and the title track Drive. That same year, (G)I-DLE held their world tour Just Me ( )I-dle and released the EP I Love with the title track Nxde. From 2022 to 2024, Miyeon became ambassador and muse for several major brands, including Espoir, Bewants, J.Estina, City Breeze, Jill Stuart Beauty, Jimmy Choo, and Wakemake.

In September 2023, she and Yuqi released How to Twerk for the Street Woman Fighter 2 OST. On November 16, Miyeon stepped down as MC of M Countdown after 1,000 days of hosting. In the same year, (G)I-DLE released the EP I Feel with the hit single Queencard, which achieved a perfect all-kill and sold two million copies worldwide. In October, the group released their first English-language EP Heat under 88rising.

On January 29, 2024, the group released their second studio album 2 with the title track Fate, which achieved a perfect all-kill. In May, they announced their world tour I-dol. In July, they released the EP I Sway with the title track Klaxon. In August 2024, Miyeon performed her self-composed song Sky Walking at the opening concert of the I-dol tour. On August 28, 2025, she officially released Sky Walking as a single.

From 2024 to 2025, Miyeon appeared in reality shows such as My Sibling’s Romance and Country Life of Gen-Z, while also serving as MC for KCON Germany 2024 and the Hanteo Music Awards 2025.

In addition, Miyeon continued to release various OSTs for series such as My Sibling’s Romance, Stage Fighter, Genshin Impact, and Myst, Might, Mayhem.

Miyeon once used the pre-debut stage names Green Tuna and Green Crocodile, both associated with her favorite color, green.
