Rami, whose real name is Shin Haram, is a South Korean idol singer born in 2007. She is a member of the girl group BABYMONSTER under YG Entertainment, serving as the group’s Main Vocalist.
Early Life
She was born and raised in a middle-class family in South Korea. Her father, Shin Donghyun, is an architect, while her mother is an elementary school teacher. Unlike many other trainees of her generation, Rami did not come from a background connected to the entertainment or arts industry. As an only child, she grew up in a traditional academic environment and attended Bundang Seoul National University Academy—an elementary school known for its early gifted education programs.
From a young age, Rami took part in extracurricular vocal classes that her mother enrolled her in, originally just to help build confidence in public speaking. However, after a trial performance in one of the classes, her teacher recommended that the family consider a more professional path. This became the turning point that led her to audition for YG Entertainment in 2017.
Career
Rami joined YG Entertainment in 2017 at just 10 years old, beating out thousands of other applicants in a private audition. Between 2018 and 2022, she underwent six years of intensive training with a focus on vocals and stage performance.
On January 1, 2023, Rami was officially introduced as the second member of YG’s new girl group project, BABYMONSTER, through the video “Introducing Rami” on YG Entertainment’s official YouTube channel. Her live vocal cover of Lee Hi’s “For You” reached 10 million views in just five days, making it one of the fastest individual videos from YG to hit that milestone.
Rami officially made her debut on April 1, 2024, as the main vocalist of BABYMONSTER with the release of their single album BABYMONS7ER. She particularly stood out in the tracks “Batter Up” and “Stuck In The Middle” for her powerful vocal performance. At the 2025 Circle Chart Music Awards, BABYMONSTER received the “Best Female Rookie” award, with Rami and Asa representing the group on stage to accept the trophy. Korean media referred to them as the “dual vocal aces of the 5.0 generation” (according to Yonhap News, February 15, 2025).
Strengths
In the “SHEESH” performance on Music Bank (July 12, 2025), Rami hit a G5 note during the final chorus, a moment which Korean music magazine IZM described as “one of BABYMONSTER’s most stable live vocal moments since debut.”
Rami is known for her exceptional vocal technique, powerful and emotionally expressive voice, precise rhythm control, wide vocal range, and consistent dynamics—particularly impressive in live performances such as Leemujin Service (covering AKMU’s “200%”), her “SHEESH” stage cam, and “Like That”. Fans and K-pop communities on forums like Theqoo and Pann have compared her to Rosé (BLACKPINK) due to her distinct vocal color and refined delivery.
Rami is fluent in English and Chinese. She is an INFJ—ambitious, attentive, and constantly improving herself. She plays the piano, was once a child model, and enjoys creative hobbies such as mimicking dolphin sounds. She’s also passionate about sports like hiking and skiing. With her talent, skillset, and progressive mindset, Rami is widely regarded as one of the most well-rounded vocal aces of the 5th generation of K-pop.
Challenges
During her debut era, Rami faced criticism regarding her English communication skills. In a May 2024 interview with British music outlet NME, she struggled to respond to longer questions, which led to criticism over YG’s preparation of members for international media. The situation prompted YG Entertainment to revise its media training strategy for BABYMONSTER, adding dedicated interview training sessions starting in June 2024.
Additionally, during the group’s debut showcase in April 2024, Rami suffered a minor ankle injury after slipping during practice. Although it didn’t affect her performance schedule, she had to limit high-impact choreography for about three weeks afterward.
Fashion
Rami’s personal fashion style is practical and minimalist, often featuring basics like white T-shirts, denim skirts, cargo pants, and white sneakers. On stage, she frequently wears monochrome outfits, often combining crop tops with high-waisted pants for a sleek, energetic look.
For official events, YG stylists style her in classic minimalism, incorporating pieces from brands like CELINE, Dior, and ALAÏA. In June 2025, Rami graced the cover of DAZED Korea magazine wearing a full outfit from CELINE’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection—marking her first solo appearance on a major fashion publication.
