Seulgi, born Kang Seul-gi on February 10, 1994, is a South Korean singer and dancer. She is active in the music industry under SM Entertainment. Seulgi is a member of the girl group Red Velvet, holding the positions of main dancer and lead vocalist.
Early life
Seulgi was born in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. Her family consists of her parents and an older brother. She attended Ansan Byeolmang Middle School before continuing her arts education at the School of Performing Arts Seoul.
She began training at SM Entertainment in 2007. On December 2, 2013, Seulgi was publicly introduced through the pre-debut project SM Rookies.
Career
In 2013, on December 2, Seulgi was introduced as one of the first three trainees of the SM Rookies project along with Jeno and Taeyong.
In 2014, in July, she featured in the song “Butterfly” by Henry Lau from the EP Fantastic and appeared in the “Fantastic” music video. On August 1, she officially debuted with Red Velvet with the single “Happiness.”
In 2015, in January, she starred as the lead Dorothy in the musical School Oz. From April to May, she participated in the variety show Off to School.
In 2016, in July, she released “Don’t Push Me” with Wendy for the soundtrack of the series Uncontrollably Fond. In October, she competed on King of Mask Singer under the alias “Cinema Heaven.” On December 30, she released the digital single “Sound of Your Heart” with Wendy and other SM artists for the SM Station project.
In 2017, on January 22, she released the duet “Darling U” with Yesung for SM Station. In March, she featured in “Drop” by Mark. On July 14, she debuted with the temporary group Girls Next Door with the song “Deep Blue Eyes” on Music Bank. On October 27, she remade the song “Doll” with Kangta and Wendy for SM Station Season 2.
In 2018, on May 23, she featured in “Selfish” by Moonbyul. On October 15, she featured in “Hello Tutorial” by Zion.T. On July 21, she participated in the Battle Trip 100th episode special with Wendy.
