An Yujin (안유진), professionally known as Yujin, was born on September 1, 2003, in Dunsan-dong, Seo District, Daejeon, South Korea. She is a South Korean singer-songwriter, model, dancer, television host, and actress under Starship Entertainment. Yujin is widely recognized as the leader, main vocalist, and main dancer of the K-pop girl group IVE, and as a former member of the project group IZ*ONE.
Early life
Yujin has an older sister born in 1999, who is four years her senior. She attended Cheongju Sannam Elementary School and Daejeon Samcheon Elementary School, followed by Gwanak Middle School. From an early age, Yujin displayed strong athletic ability, winning first place in a relay race competition and actively participating in her school’s jump rope club.
Career
Yujin began her trainee training at Starship Entertainment in December 2016 while she was in the eighth grade. After one year and four months of training, she competed in the survival program Produce 48, which aired from June to August 2018. Placing fifth overall with 280,487 votes, she debuted in October 2018 as a sub-vocalist and sub-dancer of the project group IZ*ONE.
During approximately 2.5 years of activities with IZONE, Yujin participated in several commercially successful songs, including La Vie en Rose, Violeta, FIESTA, and Panorama. In 2019, at the age of 15, she appeared on King of Mask Singer, becoming the youngest contestant in the program’s history. Following the disbandment of IZONE in April 2021, Yujin returned to Starship Entertainment.
On December 1, 2021, Yujin re-debuted as the leader, main vocalist, and main dancer of the six-member girl group IVE with the single Eleven. Alongside her musical activities, from March 2021 to March 2022, she served as an MC for SBS’s music program Inkigayo, hosting alongside Sungchan (NCT) and Jihoon (Treasure). Since 2022, Yujin has been a regular host of SBS’s year-end music festival Gayo Daejeon, co-hosting with Key and Cha Eun-woo in 2022, and with Key and Yeonjun in 2023.
In 2023, Yujin expanded her creative involvement by co-writing the lyrics for the song Heroine on IVE’s full-length studio album I’ve Ive, released in April. Later that year, she performed the Korean version of the theme song This Wish for Disney’s animated film Wish, released on December 22. In the same year, she became the fourth-generation idol with the highest number of advertising endorsements, collaborating with a total of 12 brands.
In 2024, Yujin continued her prominent presence in variety programming through her participation in Crime Scene Returns, as well as appearances on Earth Arcade and its spin-off Earth Arcade’s Vroom Vroom. She received two nominations and won the Prizm Popularity Award (Female) at the 2024 Baeksang Arts Awards, while continuing her role as an MC for SBS Gayo Daejeon.
In 2025, Yujin appeared on Crime Scene Zero, released on Netflix, and returned for the third season of Earth Arcade. She further expanded her brand activities as a brand ambassador for Labo H (Amorepacific) and Lacoste in South Korea, and attended international fashion events during the Fall/Winter 2025 season.
Achievements
Yujin is recognized as a fourth-generation idol with a notable number of individual awards, despite never having debuted as a solo artist or acted in television dramas or films. In 2019, she was nominated for Most Anticipated Female CF Model at the Korea First Brand Awards.
At the 2022 TVING Awards, Yujin won two awards: Content of the Year for Earth Arcade and Best Player of the Year. In 2023, she was nominated for Variety Idol Who Will Lead 2023 at the Korea First Brand Awards and again became the fourth-generation idol with the highest number of advertising endorsements that year, totaling 12 brand collaborations, including seven individual contracts. In the same year, she became the first female idol in 28 years to appear on the cover of Esquire Korea (September 2023 issue) and won the title of “Female Variety Idol of the Year” at the Brand of the Year Awards hosted by the Korea Consumer Forum.
In 2024, Yujin won “Female Variety Idol of the Year” at the Brand of the Year Awards for the second consecutive year. At the 2024 Baeksang Arts Awards, she received the Prizm Popularity Award (Female) and was nominated for Best Female Variety Performer, becoming the first K-pop idol since Suzy in 2018 to receive this recognition and the first non-actor to be acknowledged for activities in variety entertainment. In the same year, she received the Whynot Award for Crime Scene Returns at the Blue Dragon Series Awards.
In 2025, Yujin was honored with the “Most Influential Female Variety Idol” award at the Brand Customer Loyalty Awards.
