SNH48 is a Chinese idol girl group active in music, stage performance, and entertainment. Based in Shanghai, China, the group is managed by Siba Media. SNH48 officially debuted on June 13, 2013, with their first EP, Heavy Rotation.

As of February 2026, the group consists of 72 official members and 10 trainees, all of whom are Chinese. They are divided into four teams: Team SII, Team NII, Team HII, and Team X.
Meaning of SNH48
The name SNH48 is an abbreviation of ShaNgHai, the city where the group was founded and where its primary performance stage is located. The number 48 is a direct reference to Japan’s AKB48 Group. While SNH48 was initially announced as a sister group of AKB48, the partnership was officially terminated in 2016.
The name reflects two core elements: its local Shanghai identity and the “idols you can meet” model established by producer Yasushi Akimoto. On August 31, 2016, AKB48 officially announced the severance of ties with SNH48. The group retained its original name and has operated independently since then.

SNH48 does not have a single, unified official fandom name; the fan community often uses various names. Fans frequently refer to themselves as Xīngmèng fěn (星梦粉), named after the Star Dream Theater, though this is a spontaneous community term rather than an official designation by the group.
