Group Name Significance
The name 时代少年团 was officially announced on October 11, 2019. It is composed of three elements: 时代 (Shídài) meaning era or times, 少年 (Shàonián) meaning youth, and 团 (Tuán) meaning group. The English name, Teens in Times, directly reflects these three elements.
The abbreviation TNT also references the explosive TNT (trinitrotoluene), echoing the group’s manifesto: “火力全开,势不可挡” (Full power unleashed, unstoppable momentum).
Fandom & Lightstick
The official fandom name for TNT is 爆米花 (Baomihua), which translates to Popcorn. The name was announced on November 21, 2019, during their debut concert and was personally selected by the seven members.
TNT does not have an official lightstick. The lightsticks currently circulating among fans are unofficial designs created by the fan community.
Influence
TNT has a strong fanbase in Mainland China and among Chinese-speaking communities in Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, Myanmar, and Thailand, with fans primarily aged 13 to 25. As of December 2020, the group’s official Weibo account reached over 2.29 million followers.
As the second-generation idol group from TF Entertainment following TFBOYS, the seven members were selected through the reality show Typhoon Youth Transformation Battle (《台风少年蜕变之战》). Liu Yaowen was the youngest member at the time of debut, aged 14.
The group debuted with two singles released on the same day: Wow Wa (《全校通报》) and With Us (《无尽的冒险》).
