Kang Han-na (강한나), born on January 30, 1989, is a South Korean actress. She works primarily in film and television in South Korea and has gained recognition for her notable roles in both dramas and movies since beginning her career around 2009–2013.
Early Life
Kang Han-na was born in Amsa-dong, Gangdong District, Seoul, South Korea. She grew up in a family with her parents and two older sisters. From the age of five, she showed artistic talent by learning ballet. However, she had to give up ballet during middle school due to an injury.
After leaving ballet behind, Han-na gave much thought to her future path. Following her mother’s advice to “try acting,” she enrolled in an acting academy during her second year of high school, which became her first real encounter with the craft of performance. From then on, she was completely captivated by the art of acting and began preparing for the entrance exam to the Department of Theater and Film at Chung-Ang University.
She attended Apgujeong Middle School and Apgujeong High School in Gangnam District. After two years of dedicated effort, Han-na was accepted into the Department of Theater and Film at Chung-Ang University, where she went on to earn both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. During her university years, she appeared in numerous independent films to build experience and develop her acting skills.
Career
Kang Han-na began her acting career in 2009 with the short films Last Homecoming and King of Guitar. In 2013, she appeared in several commercial film projects, including Fasten Your Seatbelt, Commitment, and Friend: The Great Legacy, and made her television debut in Miss Korea. This period served as a foundation that paved the way for her to take on more significant roles in the following years.
In 2015, Kang landed her first leading role on the big screen with the historical film Empire of Lust. The project was regarded as a turning point that introduced her to a broader audience.
In 2016, she rose to prominence through her portrayal of Princess Hwangbo Yeon-hwa in the SBS historical drama Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo. The role earned her a nomination for Excellence Award, Actress at the SBS Drama Awards and a nomination for Best New Actress at the 2017 Baeksang Arts Awards, marking a notable breakthrough in her television career.
From 2017 to 2019, Kang maintained a steady presence on television, appearing in a wide range of projects such as Just Between Lovers (JTBC, 2017), Familiar Wife (tvN, 2018), and playing Han Na-kyung in the political thriller Designated Survivor: 60 Days (tvN, 2019).
In 2020, she portrayed Won In-jae in tvN’s Start-Up, while also hosting the KBS Cool FM radio program Kang Han-na’s Volume Up from January 2020 to October 2021. Balancing both acting and radio hosting highlighted the versatility of her career during this period.
In 2021, Kang ventured into modern romantic comedy with My Roommate Is a Gumiho (tvN), in which she played Yang Hye-sun, and headlined the fantasy web drama Bite Sisters as Han Yi-na, a supernatural “influencer.” These projects marked her expansion into digital platforms.
In 2022, she starred as the female lead Yoo Jeong in KBS2’s historical drama Bloody Heart. Her performance earned her the Excellence Award, Actress in a Miniseries, as well as the Best Couple Award at the 2022 KBS Drama Awards, cementing her reputation in period dramas.
