Meaning of BTS

BTS stands for Bangtan Sonyeondan (방탄소년단), which translates to “Bulletproof Boy Scouts.” The term Bangtan (방탄) means “bulletproof,” while Sonyeondan (소년단) means “a group of boys.” According to J-Hope, the name signifies the group’s intention to protect adolescents from the prejudices, criticisms, and societal expectations that are aimed at them like bullets.

Fandom and lightstick

The fandom of BTS is named ARMY, an acronym for “Adorable Representative M.C. for Youth.” The name represents a loyal “army” that accompanies the group.

The official lightstick of BTS is called the Army Bomb, first released on March 10, 2015. The Army Bomb features a transparent spherical shape, simulating a globe. The second version, released in February 2017, integrated Bluetooth technology for color synchronization during concerts. The third version was released on July 27, 2018, featuring a Bluetooth-controlled application that allows switching between concert and manual modes.

The fourth version (Map of the Soul Special Edition) features a black hexagonal design with a purple BTS logo, with a battery life of up to seven hours in normal mode and five hours in concert mode.
