Meaning of NewJeans
The name “NewJeans” carries two layers of meaning according to official information from ADOR. Jeans are a versatile, timeless garment that transcends generations, with each generation having its own style. At the same time, “NewJeans” is a wordplay on “new genes,” tied to the message that the group represents a new generation in pop music.
The name NJZ was chosen by the members on February 7, 2025, when they announced independent activities following their declaration of contract termination with ADOR. On March 21, 2025, the Seoul Central District Court issued a temporary injunction prohibiting the group from using the name NJZ and operating independently until the main lawsuit was resolved.
Fandom & Lightstick
The official fandom name, announced on October 29, 2022, is Bunnies (버니즈), also known as Tokki (토끼), meaning “rabbit” in Korean.
The official lightstick is named Binky Bong, revealed on the same day as the fandom name on October 29, 2022. Binky Bong is shaped like a white rabbit, referencing the fandom name Bunnies. The lightstick can illuminate in multiple colors including white, green, pink, blue, orange, and yellow. The first production run included interchangeable parts for personal customization.
