Hanroro, whose real name is Han Ji-su, is a female singer-songwriter born on November 11, 2000, in South Korea. She is primarily active in South Korea, working in indie rock, pop rock, and alternative rock. Hanroro began her professional career in 2022 and is currently signed to Authentic.
Early life
Hanroro was born in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province. She studied Korean Language and Literature at Konkuk University.
Before her debut, Hanroro spent about a year preparing with Authentic, receiving training, developing her music, and learning how to present her work. Hanroro stated that the first song she wrote was Staggering and Clapping Together, but she and the company selected Let Me Love My Youth as her debut release because it more directly explained why she wanted to tell stories about youth.
Career
2022
On March 14, 2022, Hanroro debuted with the single Let Me Love My Youth. The song uses the transition from winter to spring to portray young people finding the strength to carry on through difficult times.
During 2022, Hanroro released the additional singles Staggering and Clapping Together and Don’t Be Afraid to Fall, while also beginning to perform at indie music venues and events.
2023
In February 2023, Hanroro was nominated for New Artist of the Year and Best Modern Rock Song at the 20th Korean Music Awards.
On August 29, 2023, Hanroro released her first EP, Take-off. The album includes songs such as Seaweed, Self-Care, I’m Happy, and Landing in Love. Audience reactions during live performances were considered during production, particularly in sections that could encourage concert sing-alongs.
On October 13, 2023, Tomorrow X Together released the album The Name Chapter: FREEFALL, which included the song Skipping Stones. Hanroro contributed to the lyrics.
During 2023, she held her first solo concert at a venue with approximately 400 seats in the Hongdae area of Seoul.
2024
In 2024, Hanroro released her second EP, Home. The album focuses on emotional collapse, returning home, and searching for a place where people can live together. In August 2024, Hanroro performed at the Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival.
During 2024, she participated in several domestic music festivals, including the DMZ Peace Train Music Festival.
2025
On July 6, 2025, Hanroro pre-released the single Can I Be Me?, as a pre-release single for the Jamong Salgu Club novel and album project Jamong Salgu Club.
In July 2025, Hanroro released her debut novel, Jamong Salgu Club. The novel follows four middle school girls with their own emotional wounds who meet through a secret club.
On August 4, 2025, Hanroro released her third EP, Jamong Salgu Club. The tracklist follows the chapter structure of the novel of the same name.,with Goodbye, My Summer serving as the title track.
On November 22 and 23, 2025, Hanroro held her fourth solo concert, Jamong Salgu Club, at Korea University’s Hwajeong Gymnasium.
In November 2025, Hanroro launched the YouTube series Is Your Night Like Mine?. The program features conversations, poetry readings, and poems written for guests. Actor Jang Dong-yoon appeared in the first episode.
On December 20, 2025, Hanroro received the Track Zero Choice award at the Melon Music Awards 2025 for Goodbye, My Summer.
In late December 2025, her three EPs simultaneously occupied the top three positions on Yes24’s weekly album chart. The novel Jamong Salgu Club also reached fourth place at Kyobo Book Centre.
2026
On February 26, 2026, Hanroro received the Artist of the Year award at the 23rd Korean Music Awards. The EP Jamong Salgu Club was also nominated for Album of the Year.
In March 2026, Hanroro appeared in an interview with Weverse Magazine. She explained that when writing poems for guests on her program, she usually selected themes and words based on the recipient’s story so they would feel understood.
On April 7, 2026, Billboard Korea published an interview in which Hanroro said she continued to prioritize writing in Korean because she wanted to preserve the exact messages and emotional nuances of her work. She also stated that the size of a stage was less important than the ability to connect with the audience through music.
On April 24, 2026, Hanroro released the fifth soundtrack installment for the series Perfect Crown, consisting of the song Our Farewell and its corresponding instrumental version.
During 2026, she continued performing at The Glow and the 18th Seoul Jazz Festival. Live performance videos were uploaded to Hanroro’s YouTube channel.
